Contamination is the single biggest obstacle to operating high performing recycling programs, this series focuses on the Cost of Contamination as it impacts the environment, health and safety, operations and finances.
Contamination has become a focal point for states and provinces where Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) has been implemented.
At its core, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) embodies a powerful principle: manufacturers take responsibility for the entire lifecycle of the products they produce. When implemented correctly EPR can align incentives for producers and spur innovation. These innovations are due to producers taking into account resource efficiency, designing for recycling, and adopting environmentally-friendly practices.
While EPR is still in its infancy in most States and Provinces adoption will be a collaborative effort, and one that Dale relishes the opportunity to take part in.
